Matters of the Heart
Giving Back to the Community
I believe in giving back to my community. That’s why for the past fourteen years while I’ve been a resident in El Dorado County, I’ve been an active volunteer. I’ve served on school site councils, PTA, taught art in the classrooms, managed soccer teams, been room mom and team mom, chaired fundraiser events for Ponderosa Sober Grad Night, volunteered on Keller Williams RED DAY, and made “chemo caps” for cancer patients at UC Davis Medical Center. I’ve also worked with Habitat for Humanity. For the past six years I have contributed a portion of my commission on every transaction I closed to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition in memory of my dear friend, Pam.
In November 2009, I was lucky enough to be a match for my dad and donate one of my kidneys to him so he could lead a happier, healthier, and more satisfying life after being on dialasys for two years, having lost his second kidney to cancer. It was a remarkable experience and made me realize what a precious gift life is. There are so many people suffering and waiting on the transplant list for kidneys, partial livers, and more. Each of us possess the gift of renewed life should we choose to be living or non-living organ donors. From this point forward, I am dedicated to raising awareness for the "Donate Life" campaign and will also be donating a portion of every commission to the American Transplant Foundation. If you would like to join me in supporting this cause, you can purchase my book "And Life Goes On....a poetry journal chronicling the journey of a donor" by contacting me for a signed copy or by going to Amazon Books Online to purchase through their website.
